Friday, November 23rd, 1956: CF Kiner Settles on Red Sox Proposal
News of an impending deal between Ralph Kiner and Boston became a reality today as both sides agreed to terms on a $8,790,000 commitment. The 34-year-old center fielder will call Boston home for at least 3 years.

Thursday, September 20th, 1956: MR Black Re-Signs with Boston for $12,870,000
Sources familiar with dealings between Joe Black and Boston report that the two sides have pushed aside their differences and worked out an extension.

The 32-year-old agreed to a $12,870,000 deal that will have him playing at Fenway I for the next 3 years.

To this point in the season, Black has rung up 5 saves in 27 relief appearances. He has also crafted a 3.19 ERA, 9 wins and 4 losses and 24 strikeouts in 31 innings.
Saturday, September 15th, 1956: 1956 Outstanding Pitcher Award Winner Announced
What does it take to win the Outstanding Pitcher Award?
Just ask Dean Stone of the Boston Red Sox -- the latest AAA AL Outstanding Pitcher Award winner.

"My dad always told me dream big and dream always," he said. "It's not like I shoot for the Outstanding Pitcher Award," he said. "I have big aspirations of what I want to do in this game and what I want to achieve in a long career. This was one of my goals."

The Red Sox pitching ace certainly dreamed big this year, winning 19 games and losing only 11. In 34 starts Stone registered a 3.18 ERA and limited other clubs to a .247 batting average. He fanned 72 in 257.1 innings and issued 106 walks.

This weekend Stone will be honored by the SION Baseball Writers Association at its annual awards dinner.
