| Breaking News |  | Sunday, August 25th, 1957: Van Cuyk Dominates, Whitewashes Knights
In an impressive mound performance, Chris Van Cuyk of the Rochester Red Wings checked the Charlotte Knights on a 2-hitter and held them scoreless.
"He was getting ahead of us and keeping the ball off the plate," according to the Charlotte manager.
"Van Cuyk kept us confused the whole game."
The Rochester hurler rang up 9 strikeouts and issued no walks in his 1-0 shutout victory.
To date this season, Van Cuyk has a record of 7 wins and 4 losses and a 3.20 ERA. He has appeared in 15 games and struck out 77 in 101.1 innings. |

Relying on pinpoint control and a good array of pitches, Harry Byrd of the Toledo Mud Hens held the Charlotte Knights scoreless today. He scattered 6 hits over 9 innings and fanned 4 on his way to the 3-0 victory.
This season Byrd has worked 186 innings with 123 strikeouts en route to a 12-9 record and a 4.06 ERA. |
 | Sunday, July 14th, 1957: Mud Hens Shut Out Knights, Koecher Winner
Dick Koecher of the Toledo Mud Hens was lights out in a 4-hit whitewash of the Charlotte Knights.
He told SION reporters, "I had my good stuff and it went where I wanted it to go."
He registered 2 strikeouts and 1 walk in shutting out Charlotte 20-0.
This year Koecher has gone 14-6 with an ERA of 3.15 and has 56 strikeouts in 174.1 innings.
