| Breaking News | | Saturday, August 24th, 1957: Mud Hens Lose Blaylock for 1-2 Weeks
Toledo fans held their breath as Bob Blaylock left yesterday's River Cats-Mud Hens contest with an injury. After the game, the team's medical staff said that the 22-year-old reliever had suffered a damaged meniscus while throwing a pitch. It's estimated that he will be out 1-2 weeks.
For the year Blaylock has saved 6 games while posting an ERA of 3.20 and 114 strikeouts in 137.2 innings. His totals also include a 5-8 record in 42 relief appearances. |
 | Friday, August 9th, 1957: Koecher Notches No-Hitter Against Tides
It was a game that all pitchers dream about: a no-hitter.
It happened today at Shock Ballpark.
Dick Koecher of the Toledo Mud Hens was right on target against the Norfolk Tides in his 2-0 victory. He really zeroed in on them, holding them hitless with 1 strikeout and 3 walks.
Koecher said he just had it all today, "very good stuff and great location, a combination that's hard to beat."
This season to date, Koecher has fashioned a 16-8 mark and 3.28 ERA in 228 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .240 against him and he has logged 69 strikeouts. |
 | Wednesday, August 7th, 1957: Byrd Sharp, Whitewashes Knights
Relying on pinpoint control and a good array of pitches, Harry Byrd of the Toledo Mud Hens held the Charlotte Knights scoreless today. He scattered 6 hits over 9 innings and fanned 4 on his way to the 3-0 victory.
This season Byrd has worked 186 innings with 123 strikeouts en route to a 12-9 record and a 4.06 ERA. |
