Jim Mains had an impressive outing today. He hurled the Las Vegas 51s to a 9-0 shutout victory over the Louisville Bats, yielding 4 hits with 1 strikeout and 6 walks.
"He threw strikes and he was always around the plate," the Louisville skipper said. "The ball was doing everything he wanted it to do. We hit some balls hard, but they were all right at the fielders."
Checking out his stats for the season, Mains has registered 1 win and 4 losses in 1 starts, 5.95 ERA and struck out 8 batters in 42.1 innings.

"Sometimes I was smart . . . and sometimes just a little lucky." That's how Don Kaiser of the Iowa Cubs described his shutout victory over the Las Vegas 51s. Kaiser blanked them 3-0 on 2 hits while striking out 3 and walking 3.
