Breaking News
Saturday, September 29th, 1956: Pirates Sievers Ailing with Illness
Looks like the Pittsburgh Pirates will have to do without left fielder Roy Sievers, who is suffering from bronchitis. He needs rest and medication and should be back at full strength in 1-2 weeks.

So far this year Sievers has hit .263 with 22 home runs, 80 RBIs and scored 72 runs.
Friday, September 14th, 1956: Bobby Brown Will Miss 2-3 Weeks
Bobby Brown of the Pittsburgh Pirates could be headed for the disabled list after suffering back spasms in a game against the Chicago (N) Cubs. He is expected to miss at least 2-3 weeks. The Pittsburgh shortstop was injured colliding with a player at a base. Brown said, "Right now I am pretty sore and I don't feel very good at all."

This year Brown has hit at a .270 clip with 133 hits, 9 home runs, 51 RBIs and 80 runs scored.
Wednesday, September 12th, 1956: St. Louis Blanks Pittsburgh Behind Jackson
Larry Jackson had the Pittsburgh Pirates dancing to his tune today with a sparkling 2-0 shutout performance for the St. Louis Cardinals. He gave up 3 hits and collected 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.

Pittsburgh hitters were bewildered throughout the game by his delivery.

The opposing manager said, "When you face a guy who hides the ball like he does, it takes a couple of at-bats to try to find his release point. We just never figured him out."

This season Jackson has compiled a 18-8 mark with a 3.50 ERA.
