Friday, August 23rd, 1957: Akron Is 1957 AA Championship Champions
The Akron Aeros concluded the season in grand fashion -- they won the CCBL Double A AA Championship. They nailed it down at Walruses Stadium by whipping the Chattanooga Lookouts 8-0 to win it all. They took the series 3-0.

Their motto for the season was "Win or Die Trying".

"They never let up and they never stopped trying the whole season," the Aeros manager proudly told reporters. "They hustled and fought the whole season and it continued in the playoffs. They are a very special bunch of guys."

To get their 2nd league crown, the Aeros finished up the regular season in the AA AL with a 79-41 record, ending up in first place in the division standings.
Saturday, August 17th, 1957: Aeros Whitewash SeaWolves, Witt Winner
George Witt was in command in his outing against the Erie SeaWolves. He hurled the Akron Aeros to a 12-0 shutout victory, yielded 5 hits and chalked up 3 strikeouts and 1 walk.

"A complete game shutout. That's fun territory for me," he told reporters in the postgame interview. "I had good balance and mechanics and was able to keep the ball down. When I do that, good things happen."

Checking out his stats for the season, Witt has notched 14 wins and 6 losses in 23 starts, 2.22 ERA and struck out 45 batters in 174 innings.
Wednesday, August 14th, 1957: Witt Guns Down Rock Cats
In an impressive outing, George Witt whitewashed the New Britain Rock Cats 2-0.

"I'm getting a lot more downward movement instead of side to side. That side-to-side stuff can get hit a long way," said Witt, who is throwing with more of an overhand motion.

"It's not rocket science. It was just a little adjustment, but that's all it took."

The Akron hurler held New Britain scoreless, allowed 3 hits, chalked up 5 strikeouts and yielded 2 walks.

So far this year Witt has made 22 starts, tossed 165 innings, struck out 42 batters and walked 60. His record is 13-6 with a 2.35 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .240 batting average.
