| Breaking News | | Sunday, July 28th, 1957: Trenton Blanks Baysox, Sanford at His Best "He's got a bunch of different arm angles and his ball was really moving," said the Bowie manager after watching Jack Sanford of the Trenton Thunder humiliate his club 9-0 in a fine 5-hit shutout.
"If I make good pitches, I'm going to get some outs," Sanford said after he befuddled the Baysox. "I was making good pitches the entire game."
He whiffed 1 and walked 4 in the complete game effort.
Currently Sanford has a record of 7-12 with 18 strikeouts and 81 walks in 155.1 innings and a 3.94 ERA. | | Monday, July 22nd, 1957: Thunder Hitless Against Estock The New Britain Rock Cats relied on no-hit stuff from George Estock to defeat the Trenton Thunder 9-0 at Ballpark of New Richmond.
"It's quite a thrill," a candid Estock told the media afterward, "This is a top-notch league. A no-hitter against any team in the league is something special. I can't believe I did it."
To get his name logged in the records, he stopped Trenton cold, with no hits, surrendering 1 walk and fanning 1 batters, facing only 29 batters.
Estock told SION in a postgame interview, "Games like this are something special. They don't come around very often, if ever. I knew from the fifth inning that I had a no-hitter working. I just tried to get it out of my mind, but you just can't. They have too many scoreboards in the park. They are everywhere you look."
In a jovial mood, his manager kiddingly told the reporters, "He definitely made it easy for me today. I didn't have any great decisions to make like I usually have to do. Didn't even have to come up with a pinchhitter. I love it when my pitchers pitch a no-hitter."
Year to date Estock shows a 9-7 record, 21 starts, 152.1 innings, 39 strikeouts and a 2.72 ERA. | | Monday, June 17th, 1957: Barnes Wins AL Trophy Pitcher Frank Barnes of the Trenton Thunder parlayed an outstanding performance last week into the AA AL Player of the Week Award.
He struck out 1 in 2.2 innings, posting up a 2-0 mark and fashioned a solid 3.38 ERA. Barnes was masterful as he held opposing hitters to a .385 batting average.
To this point in the season Barnes has 3 wins and 2 losses and a 4.32 ERA. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 62-58, .517 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 17.0 GB | | Record at home | 32-28, .533 PCT | | Record on the road | 30-30, .500 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 9-11, .450 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 24-14, .632 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 15-23, .395 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 47-35, .573 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 6-4, .600 PCT | | Record in April | 15-7, .682 PCT | | Record in May | 8-19, .296 PCT | | Record in June | 17-12, .586 PCT | | Record in July | 12-14, .462 PCT | | Record in August | 10-6, .625 PCT |
