| Breaking News |  | Wednesday, July 31st, 1957: RockHounds Get Shutout Win Over Portland
Johnny Klippstein bent a little, but he didn't break against the Sea Dogs. The Midland pitcher hurled a 6-hit 3-0 shutout in a fine performance, surrendering 2 walks and putting up 6 strikeouts.
"Johnny is good at getting out of jams," his manager told reporters after the game. "He's almost more effective when he gets guys on base or gets behind in the count, because he uses your aggressiveness against you."
This year Klippstein has a 3-3 record with a 4.50 ERA. |
| Thursday, July 11th, 1957: Midland's McDevitt Out 1-2 Weeks
Midland fans held their breath as Danny McDevitt left yesterday's Rock Cats-RockHounds contest with an injury. After the game, the team's medical staff said that the 24-year-old starting pitcher had suffered a finger blister while throwing a pitch. It's estimated that he will be out 1-2 weeks.

All week long Hal Keller made the highlight reels and made headlines -- his name and face were everywhere. So it was no surprise to anyone when he was chosen the AA AL's Player of the Week for his standout performance.
Keller put up a solid set of stats, compiling a .407 average (11-27) and contributing 2 home runs and 9 RBIs to claim the honor.
This season Keller is batting .234 with 10 home runs. He has scored 34 runs and driven in 47.
