| Breaking News | | Saturday, September 7th, 1957: Casey Wise Gets Best Bat Trophy
The SION Baseball Writers Association will host its annual awards dinner this weekend and will honor the outstanding achievers for the just-completed season. One of those honorees will be 24-year-old Casey Wise of the Bowie Baysox. This year he has been named the A AL Outstanding Hitter Award for 1957.
The Bowie second baseman ended the year with a .266 batting average, 100 hits, 12 home runs, 47 RBIs, .408 OBP and scored 81 times. |
 | Sunday, July 28th, 1957: Trenton Blanks Baysox, Sanford at His Best
"He's got a bunch of different arm angles and his ball was really moving," said the Bowie manager after watching Jack Sanford of the Trenton Thunder humiliate his club 9-0 in a fine 5-hit shutout.
"If I make good pitches, I'm going to get some outs," Sanford said after he befuddled the Baysox. "I was making good pitches the entire game."
He whiffed 1 and walked 4 in the complete game effort.
Currently Sanford has a record of 7-12 with 18 strikeouts and 81 walks in 155.1 innings and a 3.94 ERA.

It is unknown at this time if there is any truth to the rumor that Bowie's Solly Hemus has asked his team for a trade. Insiders indicate the second baseman may not be happy with the club management. So far, the team's owners have refused to comment.
