Sunday, June 30th, 1957: Reading Blanks Jacksonville
Reading hurler Rex Barney put on quite a show today as he blitzed the Jacksonville Suns with a 3-0 shutout. He baffled them with fastballs and changeups, allowing 4 hits with 3 strikeouts and 4 walks to pick up the win.

The opposing manager told reporters after the game, "I think every time we were looking for a fastball, he threw a changeup and every time we were looking for a changeup, he threw a fastball."

In 15 starts this season, Barney has picked up 4 wins while suffering 9 losses. He has pitched 104.2 innings, allowed 96 hits, struck out 53 and posted a 3.61 ERA.

Hank Ruszkowski was on fire today and sparked his club to a 9-5 victory over the Suns. The Mississippi shortstop was a tough out and went 5 for 5 against Jacksonville in a fine hitting display.

"I got my pitches and I connected. They all found the right holes on the diamond. Some days you hit shots and they're right at somebody...and some days they fall in."

H. Ruszkowski singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a three-run home run off J. Unknown in the 9th.
