| Breaking News |  | Friday, September 6th, 1957: Great Year Gets Whisenant NL Outstanding Hitter Award 1957's Outstanding Hitter Award has been announced by the AA NL. This season's trophy will be presented by the SION Baseball Writers Association to Pete Whisenant, the talented Chattanooga left fielder.
In 114 games he gave NL pitchers no mercy, finishing out the year with a .297 batting average, 125 hits, 22 home runs, 106 RBIs, .412 OBP and 90 runs scored.
Whisenant will be honored this weekend at the SBWA annual meeting. |  | Friday, August 23rd, 1957: Akron Is 1957 AA Championship Champions The Akron Aeros concluded the season in grand fashion -- they won the CCBL Double A AA Championship. They nailed it down at Walruses Stadium by whipping the Chattanooga Lookouts 8-0 to win it all. They took the series 3-0.
Their motto for the season was "Win or Die Trying".
"They never let up and they never stopped trying the whole season," the Aeros manager proudly told reporters. "They hustled and fought the whole season and it continued in the playoffs. They are a very special bunch of guys."
To get their 2nd league crown, the Aeros finished up the regular season in the AA AL with a 79-41 record, ending up in first place in the division standings. |  | Monday, August 12th, 1957: Chattanooga's Whisenant NL's Hottest Hitter This week Pete Whisenant, left fielder for the Chattanooga Lookouts, slashed, mashed and bashed his way to the AA NL Player of the Week trophy.
Whisenant put up a .444 average as he pounded out 8 hits, 3 home runs, 8 RBIs and scored 7 runs.
This season Whisenant is batting .297 with 21 home runs.
