Monday, June 17th, 1957: Great Week for Springfield's Center Fielder
Veteran Tom Wright had a great week at the plate for the Cardinals to capture the majority of votes for Player of the Week in the AA NL.

The Springfield center fielder built a .423 average on the strength of 11 hits in 26 at-bats, 1 home run and 5 RBIs.

Wright is batting .276 this season in 58 games with 4 home runs, 21 RBIs and 40 runs scored. He has 58 hits in 210 at-bats.
Saturday, May 25th, 1957: Rand Batters Chattanooga for 5 Hits
The Cardinals were defeated 11-9 today at Mentor-on-the-Lake Grounds by the Lookouts, but you can't say Dick Rand didn't give it his best try. The Cardinals catcher came to the plate 5 times and collected 5 hits. It was a good day for Rand and a tough day for Springfield.

"I just go up there and swing away and hope it hits the barrel of the bat," he said. "There really isn't any plan."

No plan or not, Rand delivered today...5-5 is outstanding in any league.

D. Rand walked in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit a two-run single in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and singled in the 9th.

So far this season Rand is hitting .353 with 3 home runs, 23 RBIs and 24 runs scored. He has 48 hits in 136 at-bats and a .444 OBP.
Friday, September 7th, 1956: Dick Rand Chosen NL's Top Batter
The premier batter in the AA NL in 1956 was Springfield catcher Dick Rand. For his outstanding play this season, he was selected the Outstanding Hitter Award.

Rand ended this year with a .347 batting average, 141 hits, 13 home runs, 60 RBIs, .433 OBP and 79 runs scored.

This weekend the SBWA will host its annual awards dinner, and all of the major winners will be there to receive their trophies for their outstanding achievements this past season.
