| Breaking News |  | Saturday, August 24th, 1957: Hillcats Win A Championship The Lynchburg faithful were cheering in the streets and the Winston-Salem fans were crying in their beer -- The Hillcats won the A Championship. They clinched it by knocking off the Warthogs 6-1 to take their 2nd CCBL Single A crown. Lynchburg took the series 3-1.
"This club never gave up all year long. They believed they could win the title and they did," the victorious skipper told the press.
"We just didn't play well enough to win," the Warthogs manager lamented, "We just didn't make the big plays like they did."
On the way to the A Championship title Lynchburg compiled a 76-44 won-loss record and finished first in the A NL. |  | Monday, August 5th, 1957: AL Votes Winston-Salem Catcher Top Player Winston-Salem sports fans can't stop singing the praises of Lou Berberet, who has been selected the A AL Player of the Week.
Berberet was in a comfort zone all week, finishing with a .417 average (10-24), 5 RBIs and no home runs.
So far this season Berberet has gotten 113 hits in 392 at-bats for a .288 batting average with 8 home runs. His stats include 47 RBIs and 54 runs scored. He has played in 103 games. |  | Monday, June 10th, 1957: Week's Best Player - Winston-Salem's Freese It was announced today that Winston-Salem third baseman George Freese was selected the A AL Player of the Week Award for his superb play last week.
During the week he compiled a .429 batting average (12-28) with no home runs, 4 runs batted in and scored 5 runs.
