Bennie Daniels of the Kinston Indians really strutted his stuff on the mound today with a 1-0 victory. He was almost untouchable, bewildering the Lancaster JetHawks with a 2-hit shutout in which he struck out 1 and gave up 1 walk.

 | Tuesday, July 17th, 1956: Kinston Blanked by Surkont
Max Surkont of the Frederick Keys was right on target when he blanked the Kinston Indians 2-0, yielded 2 hits and totaled 1 walk and 4 strikeouts.
Speaking to SION reporters after the game, Surkont said, "I had everything working today and I got some help from my defense, too. They saved my butt a few times."
So far this year Surkont has compiled a 11-4 record with a 2.41 ERA.

 | Monday, July 16th, 1956: Kinston Befuddled by McLish
Cal McLish put a hex on Kinston in a sparkling 3-0 shutout performance, mesmerizing them on a 2-hit gem.
"I feel good physically," he said. "Everything's comfortable. You should pitch well when that's the case."
It was anything but comfortable for Kinston.
"McLish used his changeup very well, very effectively," the opposing manager said. "He threw it in hitter's counts."
The Frederick Keys hurler fanned 5 and walked 0.
Year to date McLish shows a 10-5 record, 20 starts, 155 innings, 104 strikeouts and a 2.55 ERA.
