Thursday, October 11th, 1956: Baltimore's White Wins 1956 Newcomer Trophy
Bill White, the rookie first baseman for the Orioles, assured himself of a place in American League history with an outstanding performance in the 1956 season. He now has a place reserved for him in the league record book under "Rookie of the Year," courtesy of the SION Baseball Writers Association.

The association will honor Bill White as the league's best newcomer and present him the Rookie of the Year Award this weekend at its annual meeting.

The 22-year-old Baltimore newcomer took the trophy by hitting .302 in 146 games this season and finished up with 164 hits, 26 home runs, 81 RBIs and 82 runs scored.
Sunday, September 16th, 1956: Sisler Guns Down Athletics
Today at Memorial Stadium Dave Sisler baffled Kansas City batters on 5 hits en route to a 4-0 shutout.

"He was able to keep hitters off balance and got the ball down," said the Orioles skipper about his starter's performance.

Sisler had 4 strikeouts and 4 walks in the game.

This season Sisler has a 1-2 record with a 4.94 ERA in 4 starts.
Saturday, September 1st, 1956: August's Top AL Rookie Named
Ken Boyer was voted the top rookie in the American League for his solid performance last month.

In August, the Baltimore third baseman posted a .324 average while racking up 35 hits, 5 home runs and 21 RBIs.

This year Boyer has 16 home runs and a .339 batting average.
